50 States and Capitals Test - Monday, June 4th
Suggested websites to use for practice:
-Seterra - map practice with state's capitals
-Sheppard Software - provides levels of practice
Our largest unit of study in fourth grade, involves the five regions of the United States of America. For each region of the United States, students will have several quizzes and classwork grades.
Students will be given a comprehension quiz for each region. This will be an open-book quiz. This assessment reviews the history of the region, the people and resources of the region, as well as challenges and unique features of the region. Students will be able to access the book both at school and online. The online access also includes additional resources such as review games, age-appropriate websites, and independent research ideas. The login information will be at the bottom of this page.
Students will also have a states and capitals quiz for each region of the United States. This will be a blank map of the region. Students are expected to know the location of the state in the region, as well as the name of its capital. A word bank is provided for this quiz, so correct spelling and capitalization counts on this assessment! We will be creating flashcards to help practice, but there are many other ways to practice. Students love listening to "Tour the States" music video on YouTube. It is a very catchy song to help memorize the states and capitals. There are also many free apps that can be downloaded to help practice. "Stack the States" is one that I have used with my own children! At the end of the unit, we will have a 50 states and capitals test!
